An attempt to analyse the sentiment of "resisting

communism through democracy"

During the transitiion, what Hong Kong people need to do is to have a rational dialogue with Beijing so

as to strive for the rights and interests already specified in the Sino-British Agreement to be implemented precisely and fully. They need not be disturbed by certain public

opinions which over-react to the situation.

Recently the Taiwan authorities have invited

those Hong Kong people who advocate 'democracy' to settle in Taiwan and combined them with the idea of forming with Taiwan an alliance to resist communism through democracy. They also incite Hong Kong people to 'change the colour of Red China' through 'democracy', 'defend the Taiwan base' and 'safeguarding Hong Kong by resisting

communism'. They use the tactic of 'defending Taiwan' to force Communist China to maintain Hong Kong's 'freedom' and 'rule of law'. In actual fact, they want Hong Kong people to be the 'cannon fodder' in resisting the unification

of the country. If Hong Kong makes a mess of the 'one

country, two systems' policy, resulting in panic and instability, Taiwan will all the more have the pretext to refuse the 'three communications' and 'peaceful negotiation'.

At present, there are three kinds of people in Hong Kong who advocate 'resisting communism through democracy'.

One type is 'fights against communism through democracy'. Acting in accordance with Taiwan's wishes, they want to stir up widespread trouble and endless disputes in Hong Kong. Their cry for 'democracy "is a ploy to cheat people while in effect, they are resisting communism. However, this type of people make up the minority.
