That can happen. I mean if I ask

you a question, and somebody else asks you a question, the same question, you will give different answers, that is quite possible?

The Joint Liaison Group did discuss

the7political development of Hong Kong. Would the Joint Liaison Group also discuss the drafting of the Basic Law as well?

A.

No, I don't think they will because

the Basic Law is a matter for the Chinese Government, and the drafting

of it is a matter for the Chinese Government. It is not a matter for

the British Government, and the British Government isn't involved in

it.

The Basic Law applies to Hong Kong after 1997.

Q.

But there is transition, you know.

29 There is transition, so under the same reason that the Joint Liaison

intemal Group did discuss Hong Kong's/political development now. So why not?

Well, the interest there is to

ensure that the system before 1997 meets up with the system after

1997.
