ITEM 105: OFFICE OF THE UN HIGH COMMISSIONER
FOR REFUGEES
INTRODUCTION
1.
The General Assembly will consider the report of
the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees
(UNHCR) for the year to 31 March (A/40/12) (Ref A) and
the report of 36th Session of the Executive Committee
of the High Commissioner's Programme (EXCOM)
(A/40/12/Add 1)(Ref B). It will also have before it a
report by the Secretary-General on the follow-up to the
Second International Conference on Assistance to
Refugees in Africa (ICARA II).
2. General policy and administrative control over
UNHCR's activities, including the level of its budget,
are fixed by EXCOM. A pledging conference
traditionally takes place during the General Assembly,
however, at which donors may announce new
contributions.
National statements otherwise tend to
be philosophical in their approach.
