The Chairman welcomed Ms. Aurora Tayao representing the Refugee Studies Programme, Queen Elizabeth House, Oxгord, as a new member of the Asia Committee. The Chairman also welcomed Bill Allen (Ockenden Venture) and Martin Ennals (International Emergency Commitee on Sri Lanka) to the meeting.
The Chairman drew the Committee's attention to the recent death of Joyce Pearce (Ockenden Venture). The Chairman expressed, on behalf of the Committee, thanks for Joyce Pearce's work on this Committee and in many other places and the great loss that would be felt as a result of her death. He said the work of the Ockenden Venture would continue, though there was much work to be done on internal organisational changes. Michael Harris would now be representing the Ockenden Venture at the Asia Committee. There was a short silence in memory of Joyce Pearce.
