Cambodian Refugees

Should also refer to our own efforts to help Cambodian refugees, a subject of concern to my Honourable Friend. We together with other western countries coordinate our policies closely to try to alleviate this problem. Would refer my honourable Friend to answers given by my honourable Friend the Member for Pentlands to
his questions on 5 and 7 March. Since then I have visited Geneva where I had discussions with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.
My Right Honourable and Learned Friend and I also discussed the
refugee problem on the Thai/Cambodian border with Thai Foreign
Minister. We have provided further assistance for Cambodian
refugees: £100,000 to the International Red Cross and £50,000 for
UNHCR, bringing our total contribution to international relief on
Thai/Cambodian border to £850,000 during FY 1984/85. Intend to maintain close contacts with UNHCR and Royal Thai Government over Cambodian refugee problem, and to continue our support for
international relief.
