Resettlement of an estimated 34,000 Indo-Chinese refugees from countries in Asia other than Thailand to third countries will be promoted during 1985.

Number of refugees resettled.

The total number of refugees in countries of temporary asylum other than Thailand, not including R.P.C.'s, stood at 34,403 as at 31 October 1984, broken down as follows:

DESCRIPTION OF ASSISTANCE
The project shall provide funds to cover assistance related to:
(a)
Medical Examinations
Medical examination costs for refugees departing from Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and the Philippines to Australia and Canada, as well as first-asylum medical examinations in Indonesia for 1983-1985. In the case of medical examination costs for quota refugees to Canada, this assistance is provided from 1 January to 30 September 1985 only. From 1 October 1985, the cost of the medical examinations will be included in the travel warrants issued to the refugees and the cost will no longer be borne by UNHCR.
(b) Computer Costs
A budgetary provision has been made for costs related to data entry and processing and supplies for Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines. ▲ budgetary provision has also been made to provide a microcomputer for our office in Singapore and a Wang PC with ancillary equipment for Resettlement Section, Geneva, for processing of rescue at sea and other resettlement-related data.
