Japan
Japanese cabinet recently decided (before our White Paper was published) to raise Japan's overall ceiling
for refugees from 5,000 to
to 10,000. The Japanese

might take from Hong Kong (no figures have been

Has undertak en to reexamine all applications for resettlement in France so far made by refugees in Hong Kong. Family reunion cases and French speakers are those most likely to be accepted (these number about 135). France will
also consider taking unaccompanied minors. But total numbers
accepted likely to be small.

commitment, but might be able to take two
large (perhaps 60 each) offtakes from Hong Kong.

Press reports have indicated that Norway will take a
further 100 from
from Hong Kong, provided budgetary approval is
given. Official confirmation awaited.
Denmark Remainder of this year's quota of 250 will be for
Hong Kong cases (but no indication of how many places there
will be).

quota of 100 refugee places may be allocated to refugees from
Hong Kong.
