3. Switzerland has accepted 628 Vietnamese refugees from Hong Kong
since 1975. However in recent years it has taken very few (12 since
1983). Although it would not be appropriate to divulge the contents of the White Paper to the Swiss in advance of publication, it would be helpful if Lady Young/the PUS could raise the matter in general
terms with Mr Brunner. We shall ask the Embassy in Berne to follow
this up with a formal approach once the White Paper has been
published.
