Her Britanic Majesty's Embassy present their compliments to the

Ministry of External Rolations and have the honour to refer to their

note No 83-006230 of 22 September about Madame Chan 1p Yuk Sim.

The Embussy is trying to procure a photostat' copy of Mrs Chan's passport

and will transmit it as soon as possible.

It has been the Embassy's understanding that citizens of Hong Kong

holding Hong Kong passports (as distinct from other types of llong Kong

trayal documents) do not raquire visas to visit France, provided their

stay in France did not exceed three months, This understanding stems

from the attached copy of a letter dated 10 August 1983 from the French

Congul in Hong Kong to the Director of Immigration in Hong Kong.

Her Britannic Majesty's Embassy avail themselves of this opportunity

to renew to the Ministry of External Relations the assurances of their

highest consideration,

British Embansy
