Work is underway to produce application forms for BN (O) passports and explanatory leaflets which set out the options available to Hong Kong BDTCs and which make it clear that those

who wish to obtain BN (O) status must hold or be included in a BN(O) passport issued before 1 July 1997 (except for those born on or after 1 January 1997 but before 1 July 1997, who may

obtain or be included in such a passport up to 31 December

Issuing Policy

11.

It will be open to people to apply for their first BN(O) passport at any time after 1 July 1987 but before a cut-off date (yet to be determined). BDTC Hong Kong passports for those who wish for them will be issued with validity restricted to 30 June 1997. It will not be possible to hold BN(O) and BDTC passports simultaneously. For the purposes of the British Nationality Act 1981, a person who holds a BN (O) passport retains his BDTC status until 30 June 1997, unless he renounces ог is deprived of that status before that date.
