Thank you for your letter of 19 April. Security Branch are now working on a comprehensive list of HMG's property in Hong Kong, as part of our planning for the future of the garrison during the transition.period. This will include properties owned by the PSA and GCHQ. The British Trade Commission does not own any property in Hong Kong. Its office premises and all the accommodation for which the Administration Officer at the British Trade Commission is responsible (i.e. flats for BTC Staff and for JSSG Staff) are all rented.
The list will take a little time to complete. Mike Arnold in Security Branch will write to you enclosing a copy, and with any explanation of the terms on which the properties in question are held, as soon as possible.
