Governor Sir Edward Youde: As president of Legco, it will be quite improper for him to take a position on whether Legco should debate the Basic Law before such a proposition has even been made.
Umelco member Allen Lee: It will be ludicrous if Legco members did not discuss the important issue of the Basic Law.
Some Umelco members have sought legal advice on whether it will be constitutional for Legco to debate the Basic Law and the answer is that there should be no
conflict.
Legco Unofficial Selina Chow: The Basic Law is natural subject for Legco debate as it is related
to HK's future and is a matter of concern to HK people. She will advocate Legco discussions on the issue.
