Wah Kiu Man Po: We agree

with T.K. Ann's remark that the basic criterion for one to take part in the Basic Law consultative committee is that he must recognise the fact that the mainstay of HK's economy is the manufacturing, export and tourist industries.

HK Times: The first meeting of the Basic Law drafting committee is a farce and a deception. HK members on the committee serve only a cosmetic

purpose.

Sing Pao: We hope that topics on which local people's views had to be

sought should not be kept secret, lest a set of satisfactory Basic Law cannot be drafted.

counterparts. Views are split among the drafting committee members on whether HK members should take part in the consultative committee.

Drafting committee HK member Justice Simon Li: The HK members have been given every opportunity to express their views during the first meeting and there is no conflict of views between them and

the Chinese members.

* Drafting committee HK member Dorothy Liu: The first meeting of the drafting committee is surprisingly good with views of HK members being respected.

* Drafting committee HK member Henry Fok: Every member of the drafting committee has been able to air his views freely

during the first

meeting.
