Looking back to what had happened in the past 30 years, how far
has human relationship in China deteriorated?
Haven't we rectified the blunders we had made in the past? It
has been clearly explained in the resolutions reached by the 3rd
plenums of the Central Committee on two occasions why importance
had to be attached to a high degree of democracy and a high degree
of civilization. Why must we emphasize on a socialist legal system
and socialist democracy? The conclusion derived from the experiences and lessons we learnt during the past 30 years is that only through the practice of a democratic legal system can a country enjoy long-
lasting peace.

It seems that the current practice in China is to gear up its economy
first and to put aside the development of a democratic legal system
for the time being?
This is not the case; a democratic legal system is still being
promoted in China. If you return to China, you will notice that
people have no scruples any more and they can speak without any
inhibition.
