Comments on Two Recent Major Events in Hong Kong

The membership list of the HK SAR Drafting Committee
has been announced. Twenty-three members are Hong Kong people,
accounting for over 1/3 or approximating close to 40% of the total.
Four of the vice-chairman are Hong Kong people and this number is
equal to that of the mainland.
The number of Hong Kong people on the Drafting Committee
is greater than previously speculated, for there were only 15 Hong Kong people on the original list. Moreover, it was predicted that local
representatives to the NPC and members of the CPPCC like FEI Yi-ming and WANG Kuan-cheng might take up more than 1/3 of the membership
(on Hong Kong side).
Membership of the Drafting Committee Unbiased
The membership list as published is quite a surprise
to both the rightists and the leftists because there are far more
'unbiased' local people than previously predicted. The membership of
the Drafting Committee is as follows: T.K. ANN, Y.K. PAO, FEI Yi-ming,
LI Kwok-po, MA Lin, Rev. Peter KWONG, SZETO Wah, Raymond WU, LAU Wong-fat,
Martin LEE, Justice Simon LI, LI Ka-shing, Graham CHENG, Louis CHA,
CHA Chi-ming, Sanford YUNG, Rayson HUANG, Rev. KWOK Kong, LIU Yiu-chu,
Maria TAM, TAM Yiu-chung, Henry FOK, WONG Po-yan.
