Concluding Speech by Mr JI Pengfei at the First Full Session
of the Basic Law Drafting Committee

Mr JI Pengfei delivered a concluding speech this afternoon
at a meeting of the first full session of the Basic Law Drafting Committee for the Special Administrative Region of Hong Kong of the People's Republic of China. The full text of his speech is as follows:-

The first session of the Basic Law Drafting
Committee for the Special Administrative Region of
Hong Kong is about to come to an end today. During
the five-day session, members seriously and enthusiastically
discussed issues like the programmes and steps of the drafting
work, the working methods of the drafting committee and the
setting up of a Basic Law Consultative Committee in Hong
Kong. And there had been a preliminary exchange of views on the contents of the Basic Law, in which useful ideas and
suggestions were raised. This exchange of views will be
of much help to the drafting of the Basic Law in future.
As you are aware, the session has, right from the
start, aroused the concern and drawn the attention of all
the people of China, in particular, people from all walks
who of life in Hong Kong hope that the session would turn out

well. Now, due to the concerted efforts of all the members,
the session has proved itself a success and it has achieved
satisfactory results.
