UK/CHINA POL-MIL TALKS: PEKING

The first round of Pol-Mil talks with the Chinese will be held in Peking on 16 and (if necessary) 17 May. The UK team will be:

I attach a copy of the agenda and should be grateful if briefs could be provided by 17.00 hrs on Wednesday 8 May to allow time for any discussion before the participants leave at the weekend. The briefs should be in final form (pink and white), the ''lead' department being responsible for clearing them as necessary both within the FCO and MOD.

MOD have requested a short background brief on Hong Kong. Although not on the agenda for the talks, the team - who do not usually see many papers on Hong Kong-should be aware of the recent developments.
4. A separate call for briefs for the UK/Japan talks is being circulated.
