3. Good programme of trade related Ministerial visits planned for the Autumn. Mr Ridley (Transport), Mr Fletcher (DTI) and, possible Mr Pattie (DTI) planning to visit.

Understand that British led consortia are bidding for major projects including the Tuen Mun Light railway project and the second harbour crossing. Realise competition for these contracts is
fierce. But believe UK has significant expertise to offer. Quality
as important as price.
5. The Multi Fibre Arrangement. Aware there has been some
resentment in Hong Kong over what has been seen as protectionist
attitude by the UK. The Hong Kong Government Office has recentl published a mid-term review. The points raised in this document will be fully taken into account when HMG considers its policy on
the future of the MFA.
