BUSINESS STATEMENT:
19 DECEMBER 1985
Opposition Day; Hong Kong Nationality Order; Anglo-Irish Parliamentary Tier; Chemical Weapons; Bob Astles.
1. Mr Biffen announced there will be an Opposition Day on 15 January. The subject for debate will be announced later. There will be a debate on the draft Hong Kong Nationality Order on Thursday 16 January. Mr Waddington of the Home Office will lead.
2. Following the Statement Members raised the following points of interest:-

Mr David Alton requested a debate on the Anglo- Irish Parliamentary Tier. Mr Biffen suggested discussions proceed through the usual channels.
Mr Roland Boyes drew attention to Early Day Motion 262 concerning chemical weapons. Mr Biffen said he would draw it to the attention of the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs. MOD usually take the lead on this subject and I have asked Parliamentary Unit in MOD to draw it to the attention of their Ministers. The Leaders Office have been
advised.
