Nature of Privilege

May hold a British Passport which affords diplomatic protection and consular representation abroad. (Applies also to BDTCs, BOCs, B/Ss, Bpps).

Have the right of abode in the United Kingdom. (Also those Commonwealth citizens other than British citizens to whom S.39(2)(b) of the Act applies).

Able to confer British citizenship on a minor adopted in the United Kingdom.

Liable to prosecution for a greater range of offences committed abroad then other Commonwealth citizens. (See Archbold (1949 pages 26-30, and Clive Parry in British year Book of International law, 1953, pages 278-9).

British citizens by naturalisation and registration are liable, in certain circumstances, to be deprived of citizenship.

Applies also to British Dependent Territories citizens in similar circumstances
