however arguably not necessary, as Article 7(4)(d) amends the definitive section (Section 50(1), BNA 1981), to insert a definition of British Overseas citizens which includes a BOC under the 1985 Order. Furthermore, there may have to be adaptations to some of the provisions of the BNA which are applied to this Order if it is eventually decided that the procedure for acquisition of BN(0) status is to be something other than a registration procedure.

Finally, the amendment suggested in paragraph 3 of Hong Kong's telegram (your minute, paragraph 5(iii)) would not appear to be necessary. As under the BNA 1981, Schedule 7, the provisions amended should be the principal Acts, and not those Orders which apply them to Dependent Territories.
