Those who became BDTCs after 1 Jɛnuary 1983 by reason of a connection

with Hong Kong.

A person born in Hong Kong to a parent who is a BDTC by birth, registration or naturalisation in Hong Kong or settled in Hong Kong. (Section 15(1)BNA 1981

A person born in Hong Kong and found abandoned there. (Section 15(2) BNA 1981).

A person born in Hong Kong and registered as a BDTC by reason of a parent becoming settled in Hong Kong or registered or naturalised in Hong Kong. (Section 15(3) BNA 1981).

A person born in Hong Kong and registered as a BDTC by reason of residence in Hong Kong for the first ten years of his/her life. (Section 15(4) BNA 1981).

A person adopted in Hong Kong where the adopter or in the case of joint adoption, one of the adopters is a BDTC by birth, adoption, naturalisation or registration in Hong Kong. (Section 15(5) BNA 1981).

A person adopted in any dependent territory where the adopter or in the case of joint adoption, one of the adopters is a BDTC by birth, adoption, naturalisation or registration in Hong Kong. (Section 15(5) BNA 1981).

A person born outside Hong Kong to a parent who is a BDTC otherwise than by descent by reason of birth, adoption, naturalisation or registration in Hong Kong or who is a BDTC serving outside Hong Kong in Crown service under the Government of Hong Kong or service designated as being closely associated with activities outside Hong Kong of the Government of Hong Kong. (Section 16 BNA 1981).

A person registered in Hong Kong as a BDTC whilst a minor at the discretion of the Secretary of State. (Section 17(1) BNA 1981).

A person born outside the dependent territories and registered as a BDTC in Hong Kong on an application made within 12 months of birth or within 6 years if the Secretary of State thinks fit in the circumstances of a particular case, by reason of one of his parents being at the time of the birth a BDTC by descent from a parent born, naturalised or registered in Hong Kong and unless that person is stateless that the parent in question was in Hong Kong for some period of 3 years ending with a date not later than the date of birth. (Section 17(2) BNA 1981).

A person born outside the dependent territories and registered as a BDTC in Hong Kong by reason of one of his parents being at the time of the birth, a BDTC by descent from a parent born, naturalised or registered in Hong Kong and that the person and his mother and/or father were in Hong Kong at the beginning of a period of 3 years ending with the date of application. (Sections 17(5) and 17(6) BNA 1981).

A person naturalised as a BDTC on grounds of residence in Hong Kong or Crown service under the Government of Hong Kong. (Section 18(1) BNA 1981).

A person naturalised as a BDTC on grounds of marriage to a person who is a BDTC by birth, naturalisation or registration in Hong Kong, or born to a parent who was born, naturalised or registered in Hong Kong, and of residence in Hong Kong. (Section 18(2) BNA 1981).
