DSR 11C

It may be helpful if I gave an example of the sort

of operation which we envisage being carried out under

this paragraph. As it happens, legislation governing

civil aviation is a good example. At the moment,

most of the legislation applying in this field in

Hong Kong is provided by UK Acts, such as the

Carriage 'Carried

1969

by Air Act 1961

which themselves form

part of the law of Hong Kong. By 1997 it will be

necessary for Hong Kong to have its own free-standing

Legislation inthis as in other fields. To make this

possible these Acts will have tobe repealed in

so far as they apply to Hong Kong: this could be done

either directly by an order under this paragraph or

by an order under this paragraph authorising the

Legislature in Hong Kong to do so. The latter would

replace

an

then Repeal the UK Legislation with ordnance or

ordinances of their own. Finally, it would be

necessary to make some amendments to the Acts as

they apply in the UK. This would be necessary,

for instance, where the Acts in question make

regulations which would at present affect Hong Kong air-

craft or Hong Kong pilots landing here in ways which

would not be appropriate once their own aircraft and

pilots were regulated by ordinances in Hong Kong.
