There are still twelve and a half years until the
termination of British sovereignty over Hong Kong and we
have not yet begun negotiations on Hong Kong's new
position. We will wish first to discuss the matter with
the Chinese Government. But I have no doubt in view of
the widespread international welcome given to the
agreement that our partners will show sympathy and
support towards Hong Kong.
