5.1
Introduction
The following outlines GIC provisions for San Tin excepting open space and recreation which are outlined in following sections. The major regional based services are sited in the general area of the town centre, between San Tin Village and the town square. These uses will serve to reinforce the town centre as such.
5.2 Cultural Centre/Town Hall
To be located in the Town Square south of Castle Peak Road, with a gross floor area of between 4,500-5,000 m2. Facilities are to in- clude a local Museum/Gallery, a Library, Community Meeting Rooms, Local Govern- ment and Rural Committee Offices, and a Stage Theatre. This structure is a critical townscape element and will be designed to fit its im- portant role in town activities within the town square setting.
5.3 School Provision*

Kindergarten/Nursery standard of 1 classroom/2,700.
Schools
The total provision for San Tin will be on the order of 32 classrooms. These are located in neighbourhood centres, community centres, and in San Tin Village: a total of 6 nos.
5.3.2 Primary Schools classroom/850 persons.

The total provision for San Tin will be about 100 classrooms, or 3.8 schools. These are located in Chau Tau Valley, East San Tin Valley, and at an expansion area north of the existing Tun Yu School in San Tin Village.
2.3 Secondary Schools classroom/520 persons.

Allocation by Education Department is on a regional basis, and provision for San Tin is sub- ject to regional totals. San Tin population figures point to a requirement for 166 class- rooms. A proportion of these can be accom- modated in San Tin if considered desirable by Government.
2.4 The highest possible quality of education will be provided to all New Town and surround- ing regional residents of San Tin.
