The Hong Kong Government now propose to build а motorway into China through Man Family land. The original route of the motorway was objected in view of the development plan and the government changed the route and added feeder roads to fit into the planned future development.

To build the motorway the government will need to compulsorily purchase land from the Man Family; the Highway and its feeders, when completed, will further increase the development potential of this area.
The government however are not adhering to their own conditions which they have set on development ie. that financial benefits will be shared equally. The government propose to purchase the land for the motorway at low rates of compensation from individual land owners. The remaining land in the area, recognised as a Development Area, will have a considerable higher value whether developed privately or compulsorily purchased as a 'Layout Plan' by the government at a later stage.
It is the Man Family's contention that this not only flies in the face of the government's own statement of equitable treatment for all landowners, but it will create conflicts in the community and make a decision on the exact line of the motorway a very contentious issue.
The
Man Clansman Association, which represents hundreds of the Man Family resident in the United Kingdom as well as the Man Family in San Tin, urgently petition the British Government's Minister responsible for Hong Kong affairs to review their case when he is in Hong Kong at the end of October.
