"FCO Minister of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth

Office with special responsibilities for Hong Kong, Mr

Timothy Renton, will visit Hong Kong between October

27 and 31."

This will be Mr Renton's first official visit to

Hong Kong.

Mr Renton's predecessor, Mr Luce, last visited

Hong Kong in July 1984. The Prime Minister and

Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs visited

the territory in December 1984 following the

signing of the Hong Kong Agreement.

Mr Renton plans to visit China in the first half

of 1986 but no dates have yet been agreed.

During his stay Mr Renton will attend the opening

of the Legislative Council building and the

inaugural meeting of the new Legislative Council.

He will also have talks with the Governor and

Senior Government Officials and members of the

Executive and Legislative Councils as well as

representatives

community.
