Many of us (and that includes the bulk of both the legal
professions and Justice) are incre singly concerned at what goes on here. The 'establishment' press is departing from its normal policy of not rocking the bot, and the Chinese press even more so. The trouble is that the Goverment is arbitary, stubborn but capricious, and dead wrong about so many things (Commerci 1 Crimes Bill, Powers and Priviledges Bill, control of the judiciary,E.R.P. etc). Amazingly the Governor keer on entering into the arena, supporting his officers right or demonstrably wrong, and then backing down or ramning something through despite overwhekming public objection. Almost daily the Government seems to lose credibility, and this must be beggşining to rub off on the U.K.Government. Even my Beijing connected friends are raising eyebrows. If none of this is interesting or news to you, please forgive
me ( and in any event please don't quote my name without prior arrangement), but should you,at any time, want any information or comment, of course I an at your disposal.
