Sir.
Prof. Poon:- Sir, will the Chief Secretary inform this
Council to what extent have the recommendations in the
Warner's Report been implemented?
-
Chief Secretary: A number of the recommendations of
the Warner's Report, apart from that on the Government
Scientist, have been implemented and have been put into
practice by the the Industry Department on the advice of
the former Science Adviser and now the Industry Development
Board. To quote a few examples, an Industrial Support
Division has been set up within the Industry Department
to provide technical support to the development of
industry, a standard calibration laboratory was opened
last year and the Hong Kong Laboratory Accreditațion
Scheme has been launched in May this year.
Allen Lee:- I am quite surprised to hear there are no
immediate plans to fill the post of Government Scientist.
a This is of course of very important subject. May I ask
the Chief Secretary to consider plans for filling this
post and the long-term implications that this post
represents to Hong Kong's development..
