Jackie Chan:- Sir, it has been mentioned just now that
most of the buildings in the older districts like Wan Chai,
Yaumatei and Mongkok might have problems. This is
probably due to improper maintenance of the sewerage
system. May I ask the Government whether it is necessary
for the Government to take action in monitoring the
management of the building as well so as to improve the
situation? What I mean is: is it possible for Government
to take action to step up management in buildings?
secretary for Lands and Works:- Mr. Chan mentioned the
question of management of multi-storeyed buildings.
This problem can be indirectly related to the safety of
structure of buildings. The Government's stand is: we will
try our best to encourage of owners of various buildings to form Owners' Corporations and Mutual Aid Committees to
manage their buildings properly.. This is the present
Government policy.
