Mr. Lee Yu-tai:- Sir, a working group on private schools was
formed in July this year. Can this Council be informed
whether or not this working group plays a useful role or
should it be reorganised with a revised set of terms of
reference so as to contribute to policy-making for the long
term future?

Secretary for Education and Manpower:- Sir, this working party
was set up under the auspices of the Private School Advisory
Council and I think I am right in saying that they were
asked to report within a period of six months, which by my
calculation should be up in about January or February. I
think they have a useful role to play because I think it's
essential that we see what can be done to help perhaps some
of the less satisfactory private schools to upgrade their
facilities so that they would be acceptable.
Mr. Szeto Wah:- Sir, people operating private secondary
schools are not really satisfied with the present policy in
this particular respect; could this Council be informed
whether, apart from the Government and the private shcool
operators, there can be independent third parties taking
part in the review of the policy?
