The new alternative oath will be known as the
Legislative Council Oath, the form of which is set out in
Clause 5 of the Bill

Schedule to the principal Ordinance.

Council will have a choice to take either the Oath of
Allegiance or the Legislative Council Oath. Clause 4 has
the effect of relieving a Member of the Legislative
Council from the requirement to

either oath on previous appointment to the Council.
It is proposed that Member of the Executive
Council, however, should continue to be required to take
the Oath of Allegiance on first appointment to the
Executive Council if he has not taken it before,
though he may have taken the Legislative Council Oath.
