Supplementary to question No. 3 in the

Legislative Council on 9 January 1985

Mrs Fauline Ng asked in Cantonese:

-

在黄大仙區蒲崗村

政府是否知道本月二日 道實施交通改道措施,使到司機極之混亂 對市民引起不便,並且令到部份學生及上班 的人士,因為改道而遲到:

(The following is the interpretation of what Mrs. Fauline Ng asked)

Is the Government aware of the fact that on the second of this month a

re-routing arrangement in Fo Kong Village Road in «ong Tai Jin was extremely

confusing to the motorists and inconvenient to the pedestrians; and that office

workers and students were late because of the re-routing.

Cecretary for Transport:- ir, I regret that neither I nor, I think, the

Commissioner could be aware of all incidents; but I think they are not that

many of course (laughter)

but I think that Mrs. Ng may be referring to a

closure of the south-bound lane of the Fo Kong Village Flyover. That, I am

afraid, I must tender you an apology for a failur

failurfin the normal procedures

described in my original answer (laughter), and the question was normal and I

did reply on that basis (laughter). But indeed on the evening of 31 December that

south-bound lane of that flyover had to be closed because of a burst water main.

The police came quickly to redirect traffic and to do their part; unfortunately,

probably due to it being New Year's Eve and followed by a public holiday, the

information did not get out sent to the media till 2 January. It was already

by then pretty old news and it did not get much coverage. I therefore must apologise

to Mrs. Ng and other people who were inconvenienced.
