The incident which happened
Secretary for Health and Welfare : Sir, I have anticipated that
this might be the point of discussion.
at Kai Tak Airport on the 5 January was in fact a false alarm and
there was no leakage of radioactive material. The procedures for
dealing with the incident of this kind operated quite satisfactorily.
An officer from the Medical and Health Depa: tment's Radiation Heal th
Unit was called to the scene and the area was declared safe. I
gather that there were short delays in the shipping of some goods
from the Airport; but the whole incident was over in less than two hours.
