(The following is the interpretation of what Mrs. NG asked.)
I am glad to know that the Government has taken so many measures to contain
AIDs, I would also want to know whether the Government has made legislations
to control AIDS patients in order to protect public health?
Director of Medical & Health Services
-
Sir, legislation to control infectious
diseases is already provided in the Quarantine & Prevention of Disease Ordinance
and the Prevention of Further Infectious Disease Regulations. AID is but one
of the infectious diseases that can come under these regulations. However, it
is not considered necessary to include AIDS as a notifiable diesase yet, as the
epidemiology and the mode of spread are as such, and because of the fact that
there are only two imported cases. We will be monitoring the situation and if
necessary we will include this disease as a notifiable one.
