Unofficial Members of Legislative Council only
18.
Activities
The Unofficial Members of LegCo recently decided to
form Ad Hoc Groups to study the following subjects in the
public domain which, in their opinion, are giving cause for
widespread concern:
19.
The Broadcasting Review Board Report
The White Paper on the draft Hong Kong (British Nationality) Order
The Green Paper on Housing Subsidy to Tenants of Public Housing
The proposed Traffic Accident Victims
(Assistance Funds) Supplementary Scheme
The Control of Pornographic and Violent Publications
The Employment (Amendment) Bill 1985
The Structural Safety of Public Housing Blocks
None of these Groups has yet completed its studies.
It is too early to say what influence they will have on
public policy, or how their conclusions will be integrated
into the policy-making process; but they indicate a
substantial shift towards evolution of policy proposals in
a more public arena before consideration by Executive Council.
Boards and Committees
20.
The wide network of Boards and Committees, (over
350 in number), has been developed as part of the system of
Government which seeks to obtain, through consultation with interested groups, the best advice on which to base decisions.
They are statutory or non-statutory, advisory or executive
in form.
