(1) Introduction
My wife and I are very pleased to be here this
evening to participate in this year's Annual Spring
Dinner of the Federation of Hong Kong Industries, and we
are grateful to you,
Chairman, and your General
Mr.
Committee, for your generous hospitality.
(2) Bridging Role of the Federation
2.
Since its establishment 25 years ago in 1960,
the Federation has been dedicated to performing a
bridging role between the Government
+
and
the
manufacturing sector of our economy. This bridging role
is defined in the Federation's Ordinance in terms of six
objectives. In view of the theme of my speech
speech this
evening, namely, the role of the functional constituency
concept in the development of representative government
in Hong Kong, these objectives are worth reciting. They
are as follows:
(1)
to
promote and foster the interests of
the manufacturing industries of Hong Kong
and to provide a united voice for those
Hong Kong and
industries
both in
elsewhere;
