THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL (ELECTORAL PROVISIONS) ORDINANCE 1985

(No. 13 of 1985)

The object of this Ordinance is to provide for the election of Members to the Legislative Council.

2. There are 12 electoral college constituencies (as identified in the First Schedule to the Ordinance) and 9 functional constituencies (as identified in the Second Schedule to the Ordinance). Elections under the Ordinance are to take place this year and in every third year thereafter, subject to the provisions of the Hong Kong Additional Instructions 1985 relating to the dissolution of the Legislative Council.

3. The Ordinance includes provisions dealing with the temure of office of elected kembers, casual vacancies, the electoral franchise, registration of electors, qualifications for candidature and election petitions. The Schedules set out the composition of the electoral college and functional constituencies and the mmber of Members to be elected in those constituencies.

4. Before the Governor assented to the Bill in the name and on behalf of Her Majesty, the Attorney General advised that he could properly do so.
