in any case preclude that. From the point of view of

the sts, obvious target dates would be Easter 1985

or September 1985. Mr Gillmore and Mr Donald would

both prefer the former. Equally both would settle for

the latter in the interests of certainty.

The planned visit to Sri Lanka is also outstanding.

In his letter of

President Jaywardene made it

clear that he still hoped to see the Prime Minister there

for the opening of the Victoria Dam. He received a

holding reply. While the Prime Minister has indicated

that she intends to undertake this visit, it is/is not

strictly necessary that this connect with the Dam. The

rainy season is/is not relevant. The political

situation in Sri Lanka does/does not make it advisable

to decide this point now.
