Now that the Reports of the Assessment Office

the Monitoring Team have been published, may I congratulate you on a job outstandingly well done. If I may say so, your Report was a model of concise and lucid comment.

I know that Parliament will attach a great deal of

importance to your seal of approval on the work of the

Assessment Office. I am most grateful to you for taking

on this task at such short notice.

As you said in your Report, the Assessment Office was a body without precedent. I acknowledge your points about imperfections in the arrangements. But I was very glad to

see that you did not believe there was any evidence to show

that these had had a damaging effect on the assessment task

as a whole.

Many thanks once again. Please pass on my gratitude

to all those who assisted you in the Monitoring Team.
