Dear Sir Patuch,

1. I write further to my letter to you of 17 September 1984 about your appointment as a member of the Monitoring Team to test the acceptability in Hong Kong of the agreement reached with the Chinese Government on the future of the territory. In that letter I promised to write to you separately on the question of your eligibility to an entertainment allowance.

2.

I am pleased to confirm that it has not been agreed that, in addition to the payments referred to in my letter of 17 September, you will be entitled to a refund, against the production of receipted bills, of the amount you spend on food and drink for the entertainment of others up to a maximum amount of the equivalent of £400 (four hundred pounds) during the period of the appointment. The cost of your own meals and drinks should be met from the subsistence allowance to which you will be entitled.

3.

Arrangements have been made for an appropriate refund of entertainment allowance to be made to you on request through the British Trade Commissioner's Office in Hong Kong. I trust that this arrangement will be to your satisfaction.

Your incenely

Keith Mon
