ARRANGEMENTS FOR TESTING THE ACCEPTABILITY IN HONG KONG

OF AN AGREEMENT WITH THE CHINESE GOVERNMENT

1. In the reply which he gave on 18 July 1984 to the

question tabled by the hon Member for Bromsgrove the

Foreign Secretary outlined the arrangements that would

be made to test the acceptability in Hong Kong of any

agreement reached with the Chinese Government on the future of the territory. A paper which was placed in

the Library of the House on the same day described these

proposed arrangements in more detail.

Attached to the present paper are the terms of :

reference of the Assessment Office and the Monitoring

Team established in connection with the proposed test of

acceptability.
