Kong $43,500 compared with Hong Kong $41,000). This is on the
assumption, which I think is probably justified, that the salary of
the person we have approached to serve as the British monitor (the
Head of an Oxford college) is lower
than that of a Hong Kong Justice
of Appeal. (He would incidentally lose his Oxford salary while he
worked for us).
ACCOMMODATION AND SUBSISTANCE

5. If we accept, in the light of his seniority and the length of
his stay in Hong Kong, that the UK monitor is entitled to stay
in
hotel suite, then conference rates (room plus breakfast plus Hong
Kong $360 per day) in fact work out at rather more than the proposal
that I had originally made (room plus Hong Kong $300 a day). I hope
accept that this lower figure should be adopted.
