JULY 1997 TO PARENTS WITH RIGHT OF ABODE IN THE SAR?
112. Such persons would be able to enter SAR and acquire right of
abode and permanent identity card after a period of continuous
residence of 7 years or more if they take Hong Kong as place of
permanent residence.
USE OF TRAVEL DOCUMENTS ISSUED BY OTHER GOVERNMENTS?

Can be used outside SAR and also for travelling in and out.

INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION OF SAR AND NEW-STYLE PASSPORTS?
114. Both SAR and new-style British passports will contain clear
statement of holder's right of abode in Hong Kong SAR. SAR
Government will be assisted or authorised by Central People's
Government to conclude visa abolition agreements. HMG will do all they can. to secure for holders of new-style British passports
at present the same access to other countries as that enjoyed by holders of
BDTC passports. Every reason to be confident of international
acceptance of these passports.

RETURNABILITY
115.
New style British passports will state that holder has SAR identity card which is evidence of his right of abode in SAR.
Confident that these arrangements will result in any persons
expelled from third countries being returned to Hong Kong SAR not
UK.

HOLDERS?
116.
All persons lawfully residing in future SAR will be eligible to hold SAR passports or other travel documents. Central People's
Government will assist or authorise SAR Government to conclude visa
aboliton agreements with states or regions.
[ IF PRESSED] Hong Kong BDTCs will retain British national status under another name after 1 July 1997; will continue to be able to travel on British passports and have British consular protection in third countries, but will not have right of abode in UK.
