Hong Kong People Resettling Abroad?
27. Much speculation. Although the number of Hong Kong people
leaving in 1983 for permanent residence showed some increase, many
explanations. Hong Kong people frequently leave Hong Kong for
professional reasons or for educational purposes. Many return
ultimately to Hong Kong. HMG remain committed to seeking a settlement on the future of Hong Kong which will provide continuing
stability and prosperity for all who live and work there.
Ministerial Involvement in the Talks
28. There are no present plans for British Ministers to join the
talks but the possibility cannot be ruled out and if considered
desirable at an appropriate time.
