FUTURE OF HONG KONG: TIMING OF HOUSE OF LORDS DEBATE

(18/10

Thank you for your minute of 4 October asking for a House of Lords Debate on the agreement on the future of Hong Kong in the week beginning 3 December, shortly after the equivalent Debate in the House of Commons.

I shall be happy to do all I can to fall in with your request, but it does depend on the House of Commons Debate taking place not later than the Wednesday of that week. House of Lords business is normally announced earlier than House of Commons business, and this could be a difficulty. I hope, therefore, that you would if necessary be content with a Debate held early the following week.

I am sending copies of this letter to the members of OD(K), the Chief Whip, the Captain of the Gentlemen-at-Arms, and to Sir Robert Armstrong.
