provide students with a comprehensive course of political knowledge.
35. Knowledge of Chinese history and Chinese geo- graphy should be reinforced in the curriculum of schools.
E. Concerning local trade unions
37. Trade unions should not evade the question of 1997. They should, instead, respond actively in a manner which benefits themselves, their families, the local community, the nation and the human race. Therefore, unions should con- solidate themselves, unite together and actively and speedily promote an independent trade union movement, to prepare themselves for further con- tributions in future.
38. Trade unions will not take an active part in
party politics and will not associate themselves with any political party. But they will continue to concern themselves with poltical issues which affect the people's livelihood, actively reflect their views and champion the cause of the workers.
