The Hong Kong Management Association Poll (Extract from findings)
Questionaires were sent to 500 managers in industry, commerce, service industries, Government and the professions. 207 or 41% replied.

96% of respondents were aged 40 or below. Of these 10% earned salaries below $5,000, 40% between $5,001 and $10,000, 42% between $10,001 and $20,000 and 8% more than $20,000.
Findings

29% (61) have plans for emigration in the coming 5 years. Of these 77% (47) worry about 1997 which means that 23% are planning to emigrate for reasons other than concerns about 1997.

42% of those sampled worry about 1997 but only 29% have plans to leave. Therefore 13% will stay in Hong Kong although they worry about the problem.

For those who have emigration plans, most (43%) are aged 30 to 34. 21% are aged under 29 and 26% aged between 35 and 39. 72% are male, 62% married with children, 74% have a university education or above. 43% come from the commercial sector and 31% from the servicing sector.

Marital status has no significant influence on emigration plans. 30% are single and 30% are married with children. 27% are married without children.
