after 1997, the respondents worry over the following:

a) living standard would be lowered;

b) personal freedom would be restricted;

c) liberties would be removed;

d) economic structure would change abruptly;

e) the Judiciary would lose independence and

f) the Chinese Government would interfere with local affairs;

From table 2, we can see that over half of the respondents

do not worry over the living standard, personal freedom and

liberties, but 55.2% of them do worry over the interference from

China with local affairs.
