Dear Jan,

The Future of Hong Kong : Opinion Poll

- 7 JUN 1984

Luce % Maile

Further to my letter of 28 April 1984, I enclose reports of two opinion polls conducted in March and May by elected members of the Southern and Eastern District Boards respectively.

In common with other amateur polls, the findings need to be treated with some caution. The design of the questionnaires does not meet professional standards - questions were generalised, sometimes inconsistent, and posed in such a way as to invite the answer 'yes'. Moreover, samples are not representative of the populations surveyed. Nevertheless the results provide a useful guide to trends in opinion.

Copies of these reports have been circulated

to Unofficials.

Yours Sincerley,

Akitun hang
